What Does Loom Do?

Loom allows you to record your computer screen, microphone and camera all at the same time with only a few clicks.  It saves your recorded video on the cloud and lets you share it instantly with a link.

Loom comes as a browser extension or a downloadable application for both Mac and PC.

Either option lets you quickly record a browser tab, window or your entire screen. You can also choose whether or not to include a recording of yourself along with your screen by using your webcam and microphone.

Once you’ve recorded a video, Loom will automatically save that link to your clipboard so you can paste it into an email, slack message or wherever you want to share it.  You can also embed the video into other media like a website or blog post where it can be viewed by anyone.

Loom has some built-in simple video editing tools that allow you to cut out clips or stitch different recordings together.  It also automatically transcribes your recordings for closed captions or to use the transcription however you like.

Why We Love Loom

Our entire team uses Loom and we really do love using it to communicate within our remote-based team or with our clients.

Instead of writing a complex 500 word email to explain something, we can record a quick video in Loom to get the point across much faster.

It’s not an exaggeration to say that Loom has saved the Avalon team thousands of Zoom meetings.  Instead of trying to contact that person on Slack so invite them to a video call, just record a video, paste the link into Slack and carry on what you were doing.  This style of asynchronous communication is a game changer for remote working.

Here’s a quick example of how we use Loom to make communication more efficient.

It’s pretty rare when a day goes by that I don’t use Loom at work.

Use Cases for Loom

Because Loom is all about communication, there are a seemingly endless number of ways that businesses can make use of it.

  • Sales and Marketing - Add a personalized touch by including a video in your sales pitch or marketing content.
  • Design - Collaborate with your design team by sending video commentary using Loom.  The downloadable applications offer up to 4K video resolution and drawing tools making it an excellent way to provide feedback on a design.
  • Education - Loom is a great tool for education as well.  Teachers, online course creators, tutors or anyone trying to explain something can get their point across with a quick video recording.
